Ali signed & framed Image of the Century

Item Number:  1290

A now rare opportunity to obtain a stunning black and white photo of Ali snarling over Sonny Liston after knocking him out in the fight held on May 25 1965 at Lewiston, Maine.

Voted as the image of the century, it typifies his power and prowess in and out of the ring. Ali knocked him out in Round 1 that became known as the 'phantom punch', as many say Ali never hit Liston. Ali himself said “I hit him so fast no one ever saw it”.

The photo is personally signed by Ali and has recently been framed in stunning solid oak distressed effect gold surround with triple mounts that give a wonderful 3D effect.

The plaque is mounted under the photo with this text;

'Image of the 20th Century' - Muhammad Ali defeats Sonny Liston in a first round knockout to retain the World Heavyweight Crown - Lewiston, Maine - May 25th 1965 - The two Ali versus Liston fights were among the most anticipated and watched fights in boxing history. Due to the controversial ending to the first fight a second was immediately ordered. The blow that ended the match became known as "the phantom punch" since most people at ringside did not see it. Slow motion replays show Ali connecting with a quick, chopping right to Liston's head as Liston was moving toward him, and show that Liston was unsteady when he finally got to his feet. Ali claimed 'I hit him so fast no one saw it'. - Limited edition numbered presentation (OA-8188575) - signed by Muhammad Ali - Verified by www.onlineauthentics.com
