Item Number:  7008

The rare and highly collectable item of signed film memorabilia is a hard back book titled 'There's Always Tomorrow', personally signed by the late Dame Anna Neagle DBE (1904-1986) and another unknown person.

During her career, Anna Neagle reached great heights and also experienced dramatic set-backs. In this autobiography she tells of her life of light and shade with refreshing candour. Contains 32 pages of b/w illustrations.

She became a legend in British films for her extraordinary portrayals of characters so diverse as Queen Victoria, Nell Gwynn, Florence Nightingale, Odette GC, Nurse Edith Cavell, Amy Johnson and Peg Woffington, apart from her gay pictures Goodnight Vienna, Spring in Park Lane, The Courtney’s of Curzon Street, May time in Mayfair and Irene.

Her stage characterisations range from Peter Pan, Jane Austen's Emma, As You Like it, Twelfth Night, The Glorious Days to Charlie Girl, the record-breaking musical in which she chalked up 2,047 performances at the Adelphi Theatre - an achievement honoured by a luncheon at the Garrick Club. This was followed by a record breaking tour of Australia and New Zealand in Charlie Girl.

Dame Anna was voted top box office British film actress for seven years and with her husband Herbert Wilcox was the recipient of thirteen awards including the Gold Cup of All Nations at the Venice Film Festival.

She was awarded a C.B.E. in 1952 and a Dame of the British Empire in 1969 - the first British film actress to be so honoured.

This book was part of a private collection and is presented in good condition, containing 224 pages and was published in 1974.

An interesting book and a rare piece of film and stage memorabilia.
