The club were founded in 1895 by Thames Ironworks F.C and in 1900 renamed to their current name of West Ham United. Their ground since 1904 is the Boleyn Ground, commonly known as Upton Park.

Although they joined the Football League in 1919, their first full season in the Football League was 1923. Interestingly they played in the very first Wembley FA Cup Final in 1923 against Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

West Ham have won several major honors including the FA Cup 3 times in 1964, 1975 and 1980, the European Cup Winners Cup in 1965, and the Intertoto Cup in 1999.
