Formerly known as the British Isles, they were founded in 1888 but it wasn’t until they toured New Zealand and Australia in 1950 that the nickname British Lions was adopted.

It was in 2001 before their tour to Australia that they finally became the British and Irish Lions. The Lions are made up of the home nations of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Every four years the Lions tour to play the worlds best in the southern hemisphere - New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. The Lions have also toured Canada, Argentina and France.
